088so1 - SS Junkerschule Bad Tolz Chronicle. During World War II, the Waffen SS earned a
reputation for prowess in combat that rivaled that of any elite fighting force. A primary
reason was the novel and dynamic leadership training at the SS
Junkerschulen, or "Schools for Young Gentlemen," where officer candidates enrolled. The
flagship institution, Bad Tolz, began courses in April 1934. It commissioned nearly one
thousand 2nd lieutenants a year, accepting men from 32 nations during the war.
Perhaps the most intriguing artifact from Bad Tolz to survive is the Chronicle of the
2nd Training Section. It provides a visual and written narrative of successive
classes from 1937 through July 27, 1943. The handsomely bound, oversize volume is
fitted with sheets of translucent onion skin protecting the parchment. The text, hand
rendered in gothic calligraphy, consists of entries from class participants. Some 40
brush & ink and watercolor illustrations depict various elements of the course, patriotic
themes, and caricatures of instructors. Most of the 114 high resolution photographs
are unpublished. They include camera portraits of (identified) officers and Junkers, group
photographs of individual classes, and images of field exercises and instruction. Maps
and charts show the location of training facilities housing various SS divisions and duty stations.
Though some of the book's 150 pages have tears none are missing. Approximately 31 photographs
have been removed, without disrupting the continuity of the text and visuals. The inscription
on the inside cover reveals that a sergeant in the U.S. Army 287th Combat Engineer Battalion
captured the chronicle in May 1945. What was then a cumbersome, 12-pound souvenir is today
a vivid, personalized record of life at a legendary military academy, reflecting the spirit
of the times as no historian could ever convey. The Bad Tolz Chronicle offers a
historic, unique, and graphic impression of the heartbeat of the Waffen SS, from
the perspective of the idealistic young volunteers learning to command. An
incomparable, one-of-a-kind offering at $15,000. More Photos |

088so2 - Fregattenkapitan Heinrich Lehmann- Willenbrock flask
grouping. This offering features a large silver plated flask that
is approximately 8 oz. size. This flask was presented to FKpt. Lehmann-Willenbrock
commander of U-96 and 7th highest scoring U-Boat ace by his crew upon
receiving his Eichenlaub (Oak Leaves). The flask has a soldered-on
copy of the Eichenlaub award along with an inscription the
reads, "With heart felt best wishes from the crew of U-96 - Prost". Prominently
featured is an engraved "Sawfish" that was painted on the conning
tower of U-96.The unmarked flask shows normal age tarnishing and
is in excellent condition. The grouping includes a period photograph
of Lehmann-Willenbrock with his good friend Gunther Prien standing
next to a convertible automobile looking out over the ocean. This
set includes an original Lehmann-Willenbrock service record that
is dated August 15, 1945. Of interest is the Third Reich period
stamp without the swastika being this was now post-war. Lehmann-Willenbrock
served as the inspiration for the U-Boat commander in the book
and the movie version of "Das Boot" written by Lothar-Gunther
Buchheim who sailed with Lehmann- Willenbroch as an official
naval war correspondent with the rank of Leutnant on two war
patrols. There is also a post-war Lehmann-Willenbroch calling
card and a cigar cutter. Reproduced photos of Lehmann-Willenbroch
also accompany the set. Lehmann-Willenbroch went on to serve
as commander of the 9th U- Boat Flotilla. The set is well
documented having been part of a Lehmann-Willenbrock display
at the 1992 MAX show. There is a photograph of former owner
and long-time collector Richard Long taken at his display
at the MAX show. The set comes with letters and affidavits
mentioning the purchase of the flask set. This is a great
piece of a U-Boat commander's history and would make an
excellent addition to any enthusiast's collection. $12,750. More Photos |

Allgemeine SS enlisted man's visor hat with original box! Absolutely stunning
and impossible to upgrade (unless with a comparable officer's - good luck). This
hat is simply described as perfect but I can't let my description end before
it begins. This stunning hat features a matched set of rare and evenly patinaed
Deschler eagle and skull. The
black ribbed wool twill is well….black and perfect. The white crown and
capband piping is again - perfect. The original chinstrap is….yes tight
and in perfect condition. The hat maintains perfect shape. The interior
features officer quality cream colored artificial silk. The tissue
paper stuffing is still intact. The sweat diamond has the embossed, encircled
gold SS runes and SS RZM tag stitched under the complete celluloid
diamond. The size 54 is also stamped under the diamond above the
runes. The artificial leather sweatband is complete. Under the
band is the RZM stitched tag. On the underside of the checkerboard
visor is the expected SS RZM stamp. The box is slightly ovoid
tan cardboard with alternating black and tan piping design
running along the top edge with a black border on either
side. On one end of the box is the size label that reads
54. This is a world-class offering in its own right by
the increasing rarity and unsurpassable condition of
this hat. $10,995. More Photos |
