2412U3 - Kriegsmarine Konteradmiral Hans-Joachim Gadow named frock coat. Born Sepyember 6, 1898, Konteradmiral Gadow began his service career during the First World War during which time he received the Iron Cross 1st Class. Continuing with the German navy during the years following the war Hans-Joachim Gadow eventually was romoted to the rank of Konteradmiral on February 1, 1944. The German Cross in Gold was awarded on October 10, 1943 and held various command positions throughout the Second World War. This frock coat was tailored in 1925 and subsequently upgraded to include the gold bullion Kriegsmarine officer's eagle sewn over the right breast area. The addition of the admiral sleeve stripes were added as he progressed in rank. The Konteradmiral shoulder boards attests to his final rank. The double breasted coat is made of the highest quality wool. All buttons are original to the coat . The tailor's label, " Deutscher Offizier-Verein, Wilhelmshaven" displays Gadow's signature along with the 1925 date. This very rare panzerjacke cut in the features white waffenfarbe along the matching detachable shoulder boards indicating the rank of Oberfeldwebel and collar tabs that is a characteristic of this Luftwaffe panzer division. On the area of the right breast is a zig-zag machine sewn embroidered second pattern Luftwaffe enlisted/ nco breast eagle. Over the area of the left breast is affixed a three-awards ribbon bar. Below the ribbon bar are three sets of loops for the attachment of the man's awards and badges. The exterior wool is in excellent condition displaying no mothing, holes or stains. The partially lined interior presents lighr period wear. The maker Reitz and size stamps are displayed on the left lapel area. 247U1 - Luftwaffe Flieger or Fallschirmjager officer four pocket service tunic for the rank of major with matching service breeches. This fine example tunic features golden yellow waffenfarbe on the matching shoulder boards and collar tabs. The tabs feature a wreathed single gull with a full bullion wreath. Over the right breast is a finely detailed officer's bullion eagle. Over the left breast pocket is a gold bomber frontspange. Below the Frontspange is a ribbone bar that includes a Luftschutz ribbon and awards presented during the First World War including the Iron Cross 2nd Class. Nicely sewn below the first button hole is a ribbon for the Iron Cross 2nd Class. On and below the left breast pocket are three sets of loops for the display of the officer's qualification badge and awards. Shown are the pilot badge, Iron Cross 1st Class and silver wound badge. These badges are not included with the offering and are shown for display only. Suspended from the right should is an adjutant's aiguillette. The exterior condition of the officer quality wool is in excellent condition having only one miniscule moth nip on the back. The unmarked interior is devoid of a tailor label and nametag. 245SO1 - Exceptional condition and rare SS Sturmfahne I/104. This rare flag measures 120 x 140 cm's and features the unit's designation on the black canton in the upper left corner. The the chain-stitched roman numeral "I" designates the Sturm while the arabic " 104" the Standarte. The rectangular canton field is bordered with aluminum twistcord piping. Sturmfahne standards were first displayed in 1933 and were employed until September 1940. It is estimated that approximately 700 were produced. The flag presents a multi-piece constructed canted swastika on the white central disc. The flag is bordered on three sides with second pattern fringe that features alternating silver and black threads. The hoist side retains all seven RZM marked M3/40/39 rings. The Sturmfahne was generally carried by a senior NCO who wore a specifically designed bandoleer in which the flag was carried. I was an honor to be selected to be the standard bearer. Of further importance, rarity aside, is the original machine sewn SS RZM tag. SS Standarte 104 was installed November 15, 1938 and located in Troppau, Sudetenland. Leesten's German Cross in Gold and award document dated 9. August 1944 and signed with an original signature of Grossadmiral Donitz, and earlier promotion documents signed by then Grossadmiral Raeder dated 18. Juli 1941 and 15.Dezember 1941. The awards include Erwin Leesten's personally engraved German Cross in Gold marked "20" (CF Zimmermann), Iron Cross 1St and 2nd Classes, his Minesweeper and Destroyer badges, two ribbon bars one postwar 1957 type), Czech October 1938 medal, a 1957 Iron Cross 1st Class. There are also a series of photographs of Kplt. Leesten and a grouping of assorted other photographs. One document of particular interest and very rare is the award document dated 23. This four pocket tunic features exceedingly rare matching sewn-in shoulder boards with wine red waffebfarbe indicating attachment to the Judicial branch of the Waffen SS. The boards indicate the rank of Untersturmfuhrer. The right collar tab displays machine sewn, perfectly hand-embroidered SS runics and the left side tab shows the officer's rank being Untersturmfuhrer. On the upper left sleeve is the officer's bullion eagle. The tunic displays deep scallops of the pleated pockets indicating Austrian design. The front is closed with field gray pebbled aluminum buttons. The French cuffs further enhance the style of the tunic. Above the left breast pocket is a short ribbon bar displaying awards for the War Merit Cross with Swords 2nd Class and the Eastern Front medal. There is a single set of loops on the left breast pocket for display of an additional award. The tailors label, " Uniformen und Zivil, A. Meissner, Breslau Blucherplatz 9 " is sewn to the upper center shoulder area. The nametag sewn inside the breast pocket presents the SS officer's name and rank, " Ustuf Dr. Scheiter, Sept. 1942."Dr. Jurist, Otto Scheiter (1902-44) held SS # 330363 and served as a divisional judge in 1944 on the general staff of the 8th Cavalry Division "Florian Geyer." The rank stripe on each sleeve indicating Leutnant. Above the rank stripes is the officer's rating insignia showing he had an administrative position. The front features a double row of six gilt anchor buttons. A fastening chain extends between the two front panels. The interior is lined with black silk. 238U14 - Vice-Admiral Friedrich Gotting formal frock coat. Friedrich Gotting entered service in the Imperial Navy as a sea cadet on April 1, 1903 and was commissioned as an ensign on April 15, 1904. Ensign Gotting was promoted to first lieutenant on in 1906. Leutnant Gotting served on heavy cruiser First Bismarck and gunboats Luchs and Tiger while serving in East Asia. In 1915 Gotting commanded Torpedo Boat "S" and later commanded U-Boats U93, U97 and U100. During the interim years following Germany's defeat in 1918, Gotting served in the Weimar Republic's Navy taking on assignment as Chief of the 2nd Minesweeping Semi-Flotilla Baltic Sea. During the years leading up to September 1, 1939, Gotting served in a number of command positions with the Weimar Navy which included his promotion to vice admiral in October 1937 and appointed as Inspector of Naval Intelligence. On December 1, 1939 Gotting was dismissed from the navy. On January1, 1940 served with the office of Torpedo Weapons in Naval Operations. Having been called back into service on September 1, 1942 as the Coastal Commander of the Eastern Baltic Sea and Commander of the Kriegsmarine base at Gotenhafen which he held until February 1943. Vice Admiral Gotting was discharged from service on March 31, 1943 and later held in Russian captivity until he died 0n January 3, 1946. This frock coat features a hand-embroidered Kriegsmarine officer's breast eagle over the area of the right breast. The shoulders retain the bridles and raised posts for the attachment of the vice admiral's missing shoulder boards. Above the area of the left breast is a series of loops for the attachment of a long service war. Lower on the left side front are two sets of looks for the attachment of the vice admiral's Iron Cross 1st Class and his Imperial era U-Boat badge. On each lower sleeve are the rank stripes of a vice Admiral. The interior is lined with black silk. The upper rear neck area displays the tailor's label for "H. Clausen, Rendsburg, since 1906. The inside pocket presents the owner's name label which reads, " Herr Konteradmiral F. Gotting, 1934". The arm length is 64 cm, chest circumference 96 and length being 115cm. The neck area closes for protection from the wind with three more ascending buttons that close near the facial area. The neck area is further protected with an interlaced drawstring. The manufacturer's name LEOR. V. FURTENBACH & CIE, WEIN 1942 is stamped on the brown side. The parka is further size stamped III. The leather coat is often seen in period photographs being worn by decorated U-Boat officers. The coat features a double row of four gray anchor buttons. This example displays believe period use having mild wear along the cuffs and other areas. The interior is private maker labeled Hettlage & Lampe, Kiel size 56. Accompanying the deck coat is a pair of gray leather pants to complete the ensemble. 238SO1 - Cased Knights Cross of the War Merit Cross with Swords by Deschler & Sohn. This early production cross features a single 800 stamp on the lower arm. The earliest productions of the award omitted the "1" characteristic of Deschler. This very rare award was presented personally by Adolf Hitler for the recipient's direct military contribution to Germany's war effort in a non-combatant roll. The award of the War Merit Cross with swords was presented 269 times according to the authoritative work of Dietrich Maerz and George Stimson's 's book, "The War Merit Cross 1. Theodor Eicke by the X Armee Korps AOK ( Armee Oberkommando ) Heersgruppe Nord. Ostfront. "The platter is further dated 25.12.41 and likely presented to Sepp Dietrich on Christmas.. The III. SS Totenkopf Division participated in the siege of Leningrad suffering heavy casualties. This platter is representative of "field" engraving rather than jeweler engraved. The platter itself is roughly silver stamped indicating it was more than likely fashioned using a locally made piece. The oval platter measures approximately 18.5 x 13.75 inches. This magnificent example features machine sewn matching celleon shoulder boards with a single rank pip affixed to the intertwined gold and silver cords. The matching pink collar tabs are also celleon with the highly detailed gold bullion wreath with a vertical propeller. The lapels present pink facing matching the collar tabs and shoulder boards. The highest quality tricot wool coat was used in the construction of this tailor-made garment. The double-breasted front displays ten gold Overhoff & Cie marked closure buttons. The interior is lined with blue-gray artificial silk. The tailor's label is sewn onto the interior breast pocket indicating "KARL HENNESCHEN, Plauen". The dagger displays an excellent deep orange celluloid wire- wrapped grip free of cracks and chips. The pommel eagle is deeply cast showing excellent detail. The gold portepee is tightly knotted being original to the dagger. The dagger's blade displays the standard sailing ship etch on the obverse and reverse sides. The WKC knight's head iappears on the obverse side as is commonly seen on WKC Kriegsmarine dagger. The hammered scabbard has one minor indentation towards the tip on the obverse side. Tied to the upper suspension ring is the rarely found maker's tag. The Kriegsmarine hangers are unmarked and in near mint condition showing light wear on the velvet on their reverse sides. 237SO10 - Exceptionally rare 1943 Admiral Inspector of the Kriegsmarine Flag ( Flagge des Admiralinspeckteurs) of Dr. Erich Raeder. In January of 1943 Grossadmiral Erich Raeder was retired as the Commander-in Chief of the Kriegsmarine and replaced by Karl Doenitz. Erich Raeder was appointed to the honorary position of Admiral Inspector of the Navy of Greater Germany. As the appointment required a flag for the newly created position of Admiral Inspector, the new flag differed from the Grandadmiral's flag by the addition a cornflower blue rectangular border surrounding the silk white field of the Grossadmiral design. This very rare flag measures 12.5 x11.5 inches and would be encased in celluloid when displayed on the vehicle. The white silk central design features a black iron cross with the golden yellow Wehrmacht eagle superimposed with the Grandadmiral's crossed batons. This entire flag presents all hand-embroidery throughout demonstrating its high quality construction. Accompanying the Admiral Inspector's flag is Kriegsmarine Parade Decoration flag. This rectangular wool flag measures 37.0 x 18.5 inches. The Parade Decoration flag was flown along with other decoration flags from during the reviews of the Kriegsmarine fleet and other formal occasions that may have included gun salutes. The flag is KM eagle stamped and twice stamped "P" representing the letter (see The Kriegsmarine vol. 3, Angolia & Schiff , pages 362-363 R. James Bender Publishing 1993). A 1944 autographed Erich Raeder portrait postcard is included in the offering and another unsigned card. Added is a well-detailed cello Kriegsmarine officer's breast eagle. The matched bullion set of the general's shoulder boards with the proper white underlay are sewn-in. The boards display a single rank pip on the intertwined bullion white and gold cording. The collar is bordered with matching gold piping. The hand-sewn collar tabs feature two wreathed bullion gulls with a gold twistcord border. Over the area of the right breast is a 2nd style gold bullion Luftwaffe general eagle of the highest quality. Over the area of the left chest is a single set of loops for the attachment of the Machenenmaat's award. The front of the pea coat presents a double row of six bright gilt anchor buttons. Above the right breast pocket is a bullion officer's breast eagle. The breast and hip pockets are deeply scalloped and pleated. A red stripe extends down the front opening. Above the left breast pocket is a two-medal parade ribbon bar for a four year long service award and the Czechoslovakian occupation in 1938. On the left breast are two sets of loops for the officer's decorations. Each of the two French cuffs are trimmed with red further enhancing the presentation of the tunic. 237U4 - Luftwaffe Flieger Leutnant's dress mess jacket and trousers. This outstanding example features sewn-in fellow waffenfarbe indicating a flight Leutnant's shoulder boards. The collar displays silver aluminum piping. The officer's formal aiguilette extends from the left shoulder attached with the proper button under the collar tab. Over the area of the right breast is a 1st style Luftwaffe officer's bullion eagle having the downward tail feathers. On the area of the right breast is a single set of loops for the display of a decoration: perhaps a Spanish Cross. Over the area of the left breast are a series of loops for the attachment of a ribbon bar. One of the loops has given way with time. Lower on the left side are two more sets of loops for attaching decorations and a qualification badge. This double-breasted evening jacket presents two rows of four decorative pebbled aluminum buttons on each of the two front panels joined by a fastening chain. On the lower right sleeve is a hand-embroidered officer's "Geschwader Boelke" cufftitle. It is very rare to find a Luftwaffe dress mess jacket displaying a period sewn Geschwader title. The interior presents the tailor's label, " GUNTER VIOHL Vorm Emil, Meyer, Breslau- Kiel Berlin W8." The evening jacket is accompanied by a pair of matching high quality wool trousers. The trousers feature a single aluminum stripe extending down each pantleg. The interior presents an unmarked Wilhelm Holters, Berlin tailor label. Holters was the premier Berlin tailor that supplied uniforms to the highest level of Third Reich personalities including Adolf Hitler. The matching Korvettenkapitan slip-on shoulder boards attach with a gilt anchor button. On each board is a medical cypher indicating a medical officer. Over the area of the right breast is a nicely age-toned Kriegsmarine officer breast eagle displaying excellent detail. Towards the bottom of each sleeve are three rows of gold bullion ( age-toned) rank stripes indicating the rank of Korvettenkapitan. Above these stripes on each sleeve is the bullion specialty insignia of a senior medical officer. The front closure displays two rows of five bright gilt anchor buttons. This outstanding four pocket Kriegsmarine Coastal Artillery tunic features matching factory applied shoulder boards and collar tabs. The Kriegsmarine leutnant shoulder boards feature winged cyphers indicating attachment to coastal artillery flak unit. Each board is secured by a Kriegsmarine button. On each collar is a machine sewn officer rank bullion litzen tab. The Kriegsmarine officer's bullion breast eagle over the right breast pocket is handsewn applied. is an excellent example showing fine detail. All breast, hip and all buttons that close the front are original to the tunic and display the Kriegmarine anchor. The exterior field gray early quality wool is in excellent condition having no evidence of wearing being in near mint condition. The interior presents the original tailor's label, " August Kuster & Sohne" and is lined with gray cotton ling. There is also a depot stamp B.A.W and dated 16.6.40. Accompanying the tunic is extensive provenance indicating the tunic was brought back by Corporal Clarence J. Laushell who served with the 3712th Quartermaster Truck Company as a driver. Corporal Laushell served in the European Theatre from November 17, 1943 through November 13, 1945. Included in the offering are numerous articles of his U,S. Army insignia, photographs and travel souvenirs while serving abroad. Of particular importance in establishing the provenance is a single photograph of Corporal Laushell wearing his captured war trophy. 237SO2 - Early SA dagger by ROBERT HERDER with 1938 inscribed presentation. This early SA dagger maker rates a 9 on the Sieger list of rarity and a 7on McSarr scale of rarity having made only 2000 SA daggers. The dagger features early nickel silver upper and lower crossguard and scabbard fittings. The enamel SA grip button is perfectly set and free of discoloration and chips. The nickel silver eagle displays excellent detail and is free of wear. The dark brown hardwood grip is a tight fit to the upper and lower crossguards. The grip is 100% free of chips and cracks. The obverse side of the lower crossguard is inscribed, "Dem Siege rim Brigadewettkampf 1938" , (The Victor of the Brigade Event 1938). The reverse of the lower crossguard is inscribed, "Brigade 57". The SA Gruppe stamp is Wm indicating Westmark. The blade is untouched and in its original condition showing nice cross-graining. This blade is free of rust, pitting and nicks with only minor age. The deeply etched SA motto, "Alles fur Deutschland" ( All for Deutschland) shows excellent background burnishing. The reverse side presents the rare ROBERT HERDER maker mark being a windmill. 233SO1 - Exceedingly rare and museum quality Totenkopf Untersturmfuhrer Dress Mess evening jacket and vests. This custom-made high quality black wool jacket features a die struck aluminum skull breast badge. This badge was affixed with two posts prior to the handsewn lining being tailored in. There is no evidence this lining was opened after its original construction. On each of the collars are the originally sewn collar tabs. On the left facing collar is a hand embroidered skull tab with aluminum border piping. On the opposite collar is the Untersturmfuhrer rank tab. On each of the shoulders is a shoulder board for the rank. On the left sleeve is an aluminum bordered Schutzstaffel armband as is appropriate for this evening jacket. On the opposite sleeve is an Atler Kampf chevron. Displayed cascading down from the right shoulder is the non-SS dress aiguellette. Affixed on the left breast area is a Luftwaffe long service award. Below that is a 1939 Iron Cross 1st Class award. The jacket presents black silk lapels with the two sides of the jacket's front being connected with the proper two SS buttons chain. The double-breasted front has six all matching silver SS buttons. All buttons throughout the jacket are Assmann marked. The interior is fully lined with hand-stitched black silk. At the rear back shoulder area is the DEUMA, BERLING Potsdamer Strasse 91 tailor's label. Accompanying the jack are the two vests. The white vest presents a waffle text material and is joined with five matching silver buttons each Assmann marked. The rear adjustment strap is marked Dachau 1943 on the underside. The white vest was worn for white tie formal occasions. The black vest also with six silver buttons SS buttons was worn for a lesser formal occasion and worn with the black tie. 2211MAB8 - Kriegsmarine Grouping of Leutnant zur See Karl-Heinz Gegner. Karl-Heinz Gegner was born 18.04.1918 and presumable perished on 20.10.1942 while serving on U-216. Oblt. Gegner's posts in the Kriegsmarine included serving with the 12. Unterseebootsjagdflotte during which time he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class on 8. December 1940. On 11. MARZ 1941 he was awarded the Destroyer badge while serving with the 6. Torpedobootsflotille. It is probable that he served aboard either "Jaguer", "Wolf", or "Seeadler" during this period of service. The 1944-45 Rangliste does not include Lt. Karl-Heinz Ggener's name indicating he either separated from service or was killed in action. Only one Kriegsmarine boat was destroyed on Gegner's date of death being U-216. He may not have served on-board long enough to qualify for the U-Boat war badge. This stunning grouping includes his award documents for the Destroyer badge dated 11. Marz 1941, Minesweeper badge dated 28.November 1940, the award for the Iron Cross 2nd Class dated 8. Dezember 1940, a postcard addressed to him and two Ehrentaffel documents mentioning his name. The badges included in the grouping include the Destroyer badge, the Minesweeper bade and the Iron Cross 2nd Class. There also is included a Kriegsmarine tally for the "Torpedoeboot Luchs" . The interior is lined with light brown cotton and is dated 1940, size stamped 58. On one interior side of the hat is a machine sewn red sunburst black swastika emblem of the RLB. The maker August Schellenberg, Berlin was one the foremost suppliers of headgear during the Third Reich period providing visor hats for military as well are political and civil organizations. 2209SO1 - Early SS Ehrensaber by Alcoso. This magnificent example features nickle silver plated over a brass lionhead hilt. This saber is a custom ordered blade displaying a combination of Alcoso components being a pommel and backstrap from model #119. The crossguard and "P" guard were taken from the dove head model. This Ehrensaber's bright unblemished blade measures a full 38.5 inches indicating it was carried by a very tall SS officer. The hilt's components are deeply cast and show excellent detail. The lion's head has no glass eyes. The reverse langet presents the original owner's jeweler engraved initials "H H ". Under the langet is the barely visible Alcoso name and trademark scales. It was not until 1936 that the SS Ehrendegen was introduced for wear. The scabbard is in near pristine condition displaying its original black painted finish. The overall length of this outstanding saber is 44.5 inches. It would make an interesting research project to determine which SS officer this saber originally belonged to based on his height and HH initials. This well marked 1937 dated hat features white crown and capband waffenfarbe as worn exclusively by personnel of the Regiment Hermann Goring and later Hermann Goring Panzer Division. The upper wool Luftwaffe blue body is totally free of mothing and stains. The insignia consists of a 1st pattern Luftwaffe eagle with a down-turned tail and aluminum kokarde. The black ribbed mohair capband is in perfect condition. The interior is lined with water-resistant copper brown cotton. The Robert Lubstein rhomboid shaped sweat diamond is complete with minor separations in the stitching. Each shoulder strap displays two rank pips and a border of aluminum tress indicating the Oberfeldwebel rank. The collar and nine-button front closure are each trimmed with a line factory machine sewn green waffenfarbe. 224H4 - NSDAP Party Leader M43. This outstanding example features gold crown piping and a gilt party eagle. The party brown wool body is totally free of any wear, stains and thing of the material. The two side scallops are joined at the front with two brown plastic buttons. The interior shows a complete artificial leather sweatband and is free of wear. I have little doubt there is an RZM tag under the band but I’m reluctant to fold it back in fear of separating the brittle band. The size 55 is stamped on the crown. This is a perfect example. $1200. 224H3 - Army Transport officer visor hat by F Lettle, Hanover. This schirmutze features the light blue crown and capband waffenfarbe of the transport troops responsible for supply and troop movement. The insignia is the optional at additional cost bullion eagle and kokarde. The upper wool body and capband are free of mothing and stains. The interior is lined withcream colored artificial silk. The complete celluloid rhomboid sweat diamond is complete and presents the maker’s name. The leather sweatband is complete and appears unused. The size is pencil marked VI indicating 56. The interior presents evidence of minor use along the complete leather sweatband. This sweatband has the owner’s initials affixed, “JG”. 224SO4 - Rare presentation goblet presented to Oswald Mosely by Benito Mussolini. Oswald Mosely was founder of the British Union of Fascists being pro- Nazi, pro-Fascist in Great Britain. In 1940 after the German/Italian outbreak of war with Great Britain, Oswald Mosely was imprisoned for his pro-fascism support. Released from prison in 1943 he lived in disgrace and lost all political influence. This goblet stands 8.0 inches in height. Inscribed on the goblet is the dedication, “OSWALD MOSELY DATO AL MIO AMICO E CAMPAGNO UN VERO OFFICIALE IL DUCE” with a facsimile of Benito Mussolini’s signature. The inscription translates to, “… GIVEN TO MY FRIEND IN THE CAMPAIGNE IL DUCE MUSSOLINI” It is unmarked but appears to be silver plate. The goblet features a gilt Italian fasces symbol on the reverse side of the inscription.. Presented to Oswald Mosely by Benito Mussolini. $3500. More Photos |

224SO1 - Reichsbahn signalman’s lantern. This rarely encountered railroad signal lantern was waived by signalman to direct trains for which tracks to use and for stopping or proceeding. 224MAB8 - Early Eagle Order 3rd Class with swords by Godet. Nice early example by Godet as evidenced by the lack of a maker’s mark on the pin stamped 900. The white enamel displays a minor repair on one arm of the Maltese cross. The four eagles in between the arms of the cross are highly detailed. The reverse presents the silver content 900 stamped on the pin. The Godet“21” maker’s stamp is absent which is proper for the early Godet Eagle Orders. Rare. $2600. More Photos |

224MAB7 - Eagle Order 5th Class with swords by Godet. This political diplomatic award was reserved to be presented to foreign and civilian personnel who contributed to the military effort of the Third Reich. The award features a white enameled Maltese cross with crossed swords signifying a military contribution. The ring appears on unmarked but the eagles are identified as Godet in style. The reverse shows a replacement pin. The white enamel is pristine on both the obverse and reverse sides with no evidence of repair. $1500. More Photos |
