159USP1 - Autographed photo of General Douglas MacArthur congratulating General Wainwright on his release from Japanese captivity. On April 9, 1942 Bataan fell to the invading Japanese Army and 70,000 American and Filipino troops began the 65 mile Bataan "Death March". Lt. General Jonathan Wainwright held out another month combating the Japanese from the tunnels of Corrigador before he surrendered on early May joining the troops who surrendered at Bataan in camps in the Philippines , Formosa and finally in Manchuria. After his release and spending over two years in Japanese captivity, Lt. General Wainwright was promoted to full General and received the Congressional Medal of Honor for his leadership in the face of the enemy against greatly superior forces. $200. More Photos
