The upper and lower borders are Russian braid. On either side of KRETA is the acanthus decorative motif with seven leaves to each side. This rare campaign award was presented to mainly Luftwaffe personnel who participated in the Kreta operation which cost the Fallschirmjager branch such heavy casualties that Hitler ordered no more large scale Fallschirmjager operations. The newly reconstituted 44th was renamed " Reichsgrenadierdivision Hoch und Deutschmeister" in honor of its participation and sacrifice at Stalingrad. The Stalingrad Cross was worn on the shoulder boards of all division personnel per order published March 23, 1944. The set features the very rare grass-green waffenfarb of panzer grenadier units) and the "Stalingrad-Kreuz".
